Using My Passport backup to transfer data between MacBooks

How to Use MyPassport b/u drive now that I've transferred data from my 2013 MacBook Pro with a 2022 M2 MacBook Pro? Do I need to wipe the drive and reformat? Guidance, please.

I definitely would if the transfer was successful. Why not? You have the data on the new Mac and a clean start is seldom a bad idea.
