New iCloud terms and conditions

Following an upgrade to Sonoma I am getting a message 'To use iCloud on this Mac you must access the new terms and conditions.' When I attempt to do so System settings apparently freezes while trying to access the terms and conditions. I still have access to ICloud e-mail on my iPhone but nothing on the Mac? Help please.

If I sign out of iCloud on the Mac and attempt to sign in again will that help? If so what happens to the data? I rarely use my iPhone for e-mail and everything is on the Mac.

Hey Steam Computing,

Those are some great questions! Signing out of your iCloud and then back in to iCloud will restore the backed up data from your iCloud, to your Mac. So signing out won't cause your data to be lost.

Before you attempt that step though, let's try this while your Mac is under safe mode. To do this, follow the steps below:

Use safe mode on your Mac

If you're using a Mac with Apple silicon

1. Shut down your Mac.
2. Press and hold the power button on your Mac. As you continue to hold the power button, your Mac turns on and loads startup options. When you see Options, release the power button.
3. Select your startup disk. It's named Macintosh HD, unless you changed its name.
4. Press and hold the Shift key, then click the “Continue in Safe Mode” button below your startup disk.
5. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

If you're using an Intel-based Mac

If you're not using a Mac with Apple silicon, you're using an Intel-based Mac.

1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window. If you can't start up in safe mode, make sure that your Mac isn't using a firmware password.

Let us know the results!

Best regards.

Hi Thanks for your helpful reply. I needed contact with my e-mail on the Mac for work so at about the same time that you were replying I was phoning Apple Support for help. They explained that the problem could be caused by a number of factors and took me through a long and convoluted discovery process which did include rebooting in safe mode which they used to rule out several options but in itself it did not, in my case, resolve the problem. We then opened a new 'Test" internet account,

which functioned properly and proved that the problem was entirely within the normal account. Once this was established it was a relatively quick matter to clear the problem. Might I suggest that anyone who has a similar problem phones Apple support. You will need to speak to a top level advisor though. The front door people passed the query on up the line very quickly.
