iphone 15 volume super loud

I just got a new iPhone 15 Pro recently and was just trying my new USB-C headphones and the health app is telling me the lowest I can set my volume is 100db? I’m getting hearing health notifications multiple times and it’s a bit too loud to be comfortable for more than a few minutes at a time. When I tested my old iPhone 8 Plus, its lowest settings go down to 40-50db at lowest. I set the maximum sound limit to 75 but my headphone sounds are still at least 2x louder than they were on my old phone? I unfortunately can’t test with the same headphones as one set is lightning port and the other USB-C

Is this just what iPhones are set at by default nowadays or is this some kind of bug?

Finally brought this to an Apple store and through some testing this is definitely some kind of disconnect between the iPhone 15 Pro on iOS 17.0.3 and any third-party USB-C earbuds. Attempted using my old Lightning-cable earbuds with a lightning-USB-C adapter at the store and the perfect volume control was restored. Attempted this with a set of Apple verified USB-C earbuds as well and it works perfectly.

Guess third-party audio merchants need to configure their products to work better with the iPhone 15 b/c several completely different brands of third-party earbuds, all highly reviewed by audio rating sites, failed to maintain proper volume control.

I have the same problem with a Bluetooth headset, Open Run Pro. Bone conduction volume is the loudest, way to loud on the first volume step up from silent. Interestingly, if you turn the sound up louder on the setting, slider or buttons, the volume actually goes down. It’s bearable at the loudest setting, but painful at the lowest setting. Someone mixed something up in the software!

Hi there Bladehenge,

Thank you for posting to Apple Support Communities.

We understand that your USC-headphones are playing at a louder than expected volume.

Make sure that your iPhone is up-to-date with the latest iOS software. Before updating, we recommend backing up your iPhone first. These articles can be of help. When you back up, you can back up using a Mac or PC rather than iCloud if you choose.

I tested it with official Apple AirPods and the volume adjustment worked the way it did with my previous iPhone. With third party devices it does not work smoothly, the volume just adjusts in large chunks. My theory is this is another way for Apple to get users to purchase official Apple products. I wish they would offer a wired USB C headset and not just AirPods!

I did some testing and got another set of USB-C earbuds and it's still the same issue. After messing with some sound settings I managed to get the lowest volume setting to about where the old phone had it, where I can just barely hear the music, but the second I hit up on the volume one more time it gets almost 3 times louder. I borrowed a set of bluetooth headphones from family and they seem to have proper volume control, so I'm not sure what to keep testing?

I’m on an iPhone 15 now and am having this same issue where it’s significantly louder even at its lowest possible volume. I’m using an official Apple USB-C to headphone jack adapter with my Ultimate Ears UE11 in-ear monitors that I use for live audio when performing, so they’re top notch in quality. Hopefully this is actually a bug then because I’m not on a 3rd party adapter like you mentioned after testing in an Apple Store.

I have the same exact issue. I prefer to use wired earbuds because wireless will come out and then I have to find them in the middle of the night or the morning. The jump between the lowest level and the first one up is so jarring in difference. I also posted about it here: iPhone 15 volume adjustment increments - Apple Community.

Glad to hear I am not the only one, but sorry to hear others are also experiencing this issue.
