Missing photos when transferring

I have an issue that I've noticed over the past few months, so it may be a settings issue.

When I attach my phone to my Windows 11 PC to transfer photos and video over, many of my photos are missing.

They are clearly available on the iphone, but don't show up in the DCIM folder on my PC.

The strange thing - If I go into my iphone and scroll through the photos in the Photo app, they will then show up on my PC when connected. It seems like only photos that are viewed in the Photo app first become accessible. Literally large batches of photos will be missing until I scroll through them in the photo app.

Any idea what is causing this? I don't use iCloud. Thanks

Thanks. Unfortunately, this didn't solve my issue, I already do many of these steps when importing.

The issue seems related to the iPhone itself, since the temporary fix involves bringing up the photos on the device via the Photos app, which then makes them available when seeking to import. Once the photos are available, I have no issues doing the actual import.

I had the same problem. I saw 808 photos in an album, which I selected to copy to my PC. Only 274 photos were transferred. I tried this twice with the same result. The only way I was able to overcome this, was to copy small batches at a time (approximately 50 images in each batch). I created a folder on my PC to dump the images and had this open in one window, and kept the apple link open in another window, to make the transfers more efficient. Even though this was tedious, every photo was successfully copied. Apple really should do better, but we all know they don't care if their products don't interface with other non-Apple products. I think, they believe that if we are frustrated for long enough, we will all switch all our devices to Apple...
