Presenter overlay not working on M1 in Sonoma?

I have an M1 MacBook Pro, just installed the release version of Sonoma, and I was looking forward to using the presenter overlay in Facetime and Zoom, but I'm unable to activate it as the screen sharing icon in the menu bar doesn't offer that option.

Hey, I've been trying to get it to work on OBS, without much luck, and I've come to a somewhat important realisation: Not only do you have to screen share, you also have to have your camera actively be used by OBS for the option to pop up in the menu bar. The same goes for Discord (just tested it) although it means the camera feed on discord will just display the presenter overlay icon, while the screen sharing feed shows the correct presenter overlay camera + screen feed.

The best way to do it in my opinion is to setup a screen capture device and a video capture device to the camera you want on OBS, and to start a virtual camera with presenter overlay which you can directly use as a camera on anything you want. It probably saves both bandwidth and UX. (on apps which don't support it directly, like Discord, for example)

I also have a Macbook Air M2. The presenter overlay for me only works with small windows on OBS with screen sharing but if i click the large window, nothing happens and it seems like it has frozen because then I cannot switch back to small window or turn it off. I have to completely shut down OBS. Strangely the same presenter overlay works absolutely fine with OBS on my M1 Mac Mini. I guess there is some compatibility issues with M2 and presenter overlay that is causing such strange issues

Thanks. I'm not sure what actively sharing means in this context.

Here is my scenario: I'm in Zoom, I start a meeting with only me as a participant, I start screen sharing, and select an app to share. The share screen icon shows up in the menu bar, I click it and I see what's shown in the screenshot above. Does this constitute "actively sharing my screen"?

Yesterday I had an opportunity to test the presenter overlay in an actual Zoom call, but unfortunately, it didn't work either. I only saw the options shown in the screenshot above. According to the specs this should be working on my M1 MacBook Pro.

I'd be grateful if someone here could help me to troubleshoot this issue.
