on the new sonoma 14.0, why does apple accept Libre office software and not Open Office software

Hello,

We have been using "Open Office" for a few years until today because we find "Pages" not as complete nor user-friendly.

Last week or so we updated to Sonoma 14.0

This morning, after writing some letters with Open Office, we saw an icon telling us about a new Open Office update...

we downloaded it, however, Sonoma refused to accept the new version

Can you help us remedy this problem?

Why does Sonoma did accept Libre Office and refused Open Office since they are both open source?

In advance, we thank you for your response.

Cordially

Open Source means that you can get access to the source code – so you can reuse it, fix it, or improve on it. It doesn't mean that any particular Open Source program is compatible with every platform in the world.

There is a version of OpenOffice 4.1.1.4 for macOS – but it dates from February 27, 2023 (many months before the release of Sonoma), and the release notes say

"Apache OpenOffice disk images are signed by Apache as required by Apple, but Gatekeeper may still be triggered."

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/AOO+4.1.14+Release+Notes

If Gatekeeper security is the issue, the site recommends this:

"For macOS 10.12 “Sierra” and up: In Finder, Control-click or right-click the icon of the app. Select Open from the top of the contextual menu that appears. Click Open in the dialog box. If prompted, enter an administrator name and password. This is needed just the first time you launch Apache OpenOffice."

As a side note i am running Sonoma 14.2.1 and Open Office 4.1.15..

today i watched a text cell in Calc NOT offer a COPY option when selecting the cell and right clicking .

ANd when in Text Document the scrolling of pages can be an issue , remedied by mousing over the scramble..

If you have found what you believe are bugs, you may want to report them via the OpenOffice site. I doubt if the OpenOffice developers read all of the discussions here, on the off-chance that one or two of them will be about OpenOffice.
