My wife has dementia. She wanders around the neighborhood. If she wears an Apple Watch, can I find her location using Find My on my desktop iMac at home? Does the watch contain a real GPS, or is it dependent on her getting near enough to an iPhone with Find My activated. If she wanders into the woods or a neighborhood without iPhones +Find My, what then?

GPS only watch needs to be near the paired phone or wifi.

I do not usually stray from Apple devices, but there are medical alert devices that will do exactly what you want. My elderly Dad wore one around his neck. I was able to track where he was at any time. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor. I got my Dad’s device at a local drug store. The pharmacist was very helpful.
