Why is a credit card number required to try my free trial. Thank you

Debt in America is over the top. Free should be free and the company should do the follow up after the trial and ask for permission then

A credit or debit card is required initially to enable the App Store; it’s part of the identification process. If you have no apps that have offer subscriptions and no apps that have in-app purchases you may be able to remove the card. But a free trial is as it says, a trial. You must have a payment method set up in case you don’t cancel the trial before it expires.

Personal debt is a matter of choice; I have credit cards but have no debt, because I pay the full balance on my credit cards every month. And if even that is too much debt for you just use debit cards.
