iPhone 15 Pro Max Camera Blurry and Out of Focus

Hi All,

It seems im not having a very good experience with the new iPhone 15 Pro Max. Coming from a 14 Pro Max the pictures were great. nice and sharp, never had issues with "blur" or "grainy" photo's.

This new iPhone seems to be a downgrade in the photo's it can produce. I'm constantly getting very grainy photo's even with the slightest bit of zoom after the photo has been taken.

I have tried all resolution's etc (12mp, 24mp, 48mp HEIF & Pro Raw.) this has affected th 1x and 5x camera.

My 14 won me a few awards for photo's and consider myself fairly knowledgeable on iPhone Photography. The 15 just isn't putting out good quality images.

All photo's are stored "on device" so there is no iCloud trickery happening.

The below is an example of what I am talking about.

I am experiencing the same. The shot looks great until I capture the photo. Once captured, it turns grainy and looks nothing like it did in the initial shot. Ive tried turning all of the auto settings off to see if that helps and it hasn’t. Super disappointed! My 13 Pro took better photos.

I’m also disappointed with my new iPhone 15 pro max camera. My iPod touch that I bought in 2014 and my iPhone 7 Plus took better pictures, sharper and clearer pictures, that is why I immediately noticed the difference. I noticed some smudges on my pictures taken by iPhone 15 Pro Max which are not seen in my photos taken from my old iPhone and iPod. If not because old phones are gonna get obsolete, I wouldn’t have upgraded to the new model.

I went to the Genius Bar today. Thankfully my camera FAILED inspection. It jumps around which makes it impossible to take a clear photo. They replaced my camera. Jitter and jumping are fixed. But the focus and resolution still stink. The support rep at the Genius Bar acknowledged and agreed my focus still stinks. I’m talking to support tomorrow about getting a replacement phone though I doubt that will fix it. She said a hard reset is the only other option apart from hoping a future IOS release will fix this. I just did the 17.1.1 update. Did not fix the issue.

My camera WAS wonderful but then I don't know what happened. The only one that is hazy for me is when I switch into Pro RES and when I do that everything gets gray and fuzzy.

It also struggles to focus when it is Super zoomed in on something close. I am far from a professional photographer however in this may be common with the presets or settings I use.

The same cannot be said for my struggles with Pro RES however. That lovely issue is brand spanking new

I’m really disappointed in my 15 pro max…the picture quality is not bad but it is definitely worse then my 14 pro max and even my 13 pro max in some cases…I don’t know why this is the case…and I can understand the telefoto has some issues in lower light situations; but shooting pictures of my kids; they are blurry, their hair is grainy and, most importantly, they are out of focus.

sure…the 14pm sometimes made out of focus pictures but that was usually when the subject was moving or I was moving…most of the times fotos where hairsharp, vivid and amazing for a phone…the 15 pm is just disappointing…I really regret upgrading. Never had that before…

Me too, I thought I was going crazy! When aiming and setting up to take the photo it looks impeccable but once you take the photo it goes grainy and blurry!

got my phone upgraded today from a 12 pro to a 15 pro thinking the pictures were going to be insane quality (which is the main purpose of my phone taking pictures of my son) but nope they are pants! Going to return and see if by downgrading I’ll get a better picture quality! NEVER THOUGHT I’d see the day a downgrade would be a better option, highly disappointed!

Completely agree, the main camera still has a focus issue.

One problem with how people are using the iPhone 15 Pro max is to not realise that the lenses are prime lenses. That is, they do not zoom. Zooming is done by switching between lenses and digital wizardry smoothening the transition. So the cameras are best at their native zoom. ie for 15 Pro it is 1X, 0.5X and 5X, for the Pro it is 1X, 3X and 0.5. If you are using the camera at any other zoom level you will get digital processing to upscale the image and loose quality.

The issue that I see is that even when using them as primes, there is still a focus issue and pics are worse than my 13 Pro. Also interesting is that the iPhone can still choose the main lens when you are at 3X on the 15 Pro for example, I think when it decides that a digital zoom of the main camera will give better results than the prime zoom of the telephoto camera. Apple needs to do some more work on optimising the focus and post processing. I really hope there is no hardware issue.
