iPhone 15 Pro Max Camera Blurry and Out of Focus

Hi All,

It seems im not having a very good experience with the new iPhone 15 Pro Max. Coming from a 14 Pro Max the pictures were great. nice and sharp, never had issues with "blur" or "grainy" photo's.

This new iPhone seems to be a downgrade in the photo's it can produce. I'm constantly getting very grainy photo's even with the slightest bit of zoom after the photo has been taken.

I have tried all resolution's etc (12mp, 24mp, 48mp HEIF & Pro Raw.) this has affected th 1x and 5x camera.

My 14 won me a few awards for photo's and consider myself fairly knowledgeable on iPhone Photography. The 15 just isn't putting out good quality images.

All photo's are stored "on device" so there is no iCloud trickery happening.

The below is an example of what I am talking about.

I am soooo annoyed about this! I purchased the iPhone 15 pro for the camera and complete disappointment so far. All photos are blurry, grainy, and just remind me of the iPod touch. Apple please fix this! Can’t figure out if this is a software problem or a hardware one!

I called Apple Support about this. They said that it's a known issue and they're open to replacing my device, but they've still escalated me twice up the Support chain.

Has anyone gotten to the point of replacement? And did that help it? I'm doubtful, since so many here all have the same problem...is it a subset of iPhone 15 Pros? Or all of them? What a runaround - I'm devastated month over month of horrible photos!

Apple allows the return of devices purchased from them for 14 days after purchase for whatever reason.

Other retailers have other policies.

Note devices purchased during the holidays have a different policy:

Holiday Return Policy

Eligible products at the Apple Store Online that are received between November 3, 2023 and December 25, 2023, may be returned through January 8, 2024. Please note that all other terms and conditions provided in the Apple Store Online Sales and Refunds Policy are still applicable with respect to such products purchased. iPhone purchases that are carrier-financed with T-Mobile are not eligible and are subject to standard return policy. All purchases made after December 25, 2023 are subject to the Standard Return Policy.

bought the 15 pro max yesterday as an upgrade from the standard 13 and was so disappointed when i noticed how blurry and pixelated photos look on the front camera after taking them. however i have since discovered that by ensuring night mode is enabled when taking a photo on the front camera, my photos are coming out perfect! no blurring or pixelation! hopefully this works for others

I took my iPhone 15 pro to the Apple Store, but they said there wasn’t a problem!! The photos had lots of ‘noise’ around the edges, which made everything out of focus. I complained to customer services a couple of times, and eventually they suggested a fix that actually worked. They talked me through a phone reset, which was very straightforward. My camera now takes good photos, and I now feel happy with the phone. I would suggest that you talk to customer services, or go to an Apple Store, and get them to reset the phone. The reset keeps all the settings, other than your home WiFi password. Good luck, I hope this works for you.

The problem is best described as iPhone 15 produces a UV photo as a default - creating a grey, dead and see-through pallor as a default. It’s just atrocious. Look at the stills that come from video of iPhone 15 - those are great! Compare! Apple should never have released with this egregious product problem that renders my usage of the camera unusable for photos with faces! I am only keeping because of video.

When you crop you're zooming in on pixels that are already there, and they are always going to be noisy and lossy.

You can't create pixels out of nowhere; that only works in movies and TV shows.

You can see this if you tap the "i" in a circle of your photos in Photos.

For example, if you look at a photo taken with the normal lens, it will report it is 24 MP in size.

However, depending upon the amount you zoom and crop, the result could be as little as 0.7 MP.

You can't just crop like that; you can crop a tiny bit, otherwise if you want a closer image use the telephoto lens.

That's true of digital photography no matter what camera or device you use.

Your 13 Pro Max has comparatively lower quality lenses coupled with a smaller sensor of 1/4 the resolution available from the main camera on the 14 Pro/Pro Max and 15 Pro/Pro Max.

Many are zooming into a photo taken with their new device in a way they never would have a photo on their older phone because pixelation would have become an issue long before noise was.

I’m having exactly the same issue.

I recently upgraded from an iPhone 11 Pro to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, hoping to capture high-quality photos of my trip to Europe. However, I was disappointed to find that all the photos I took were grainy and not of good quality.

I regret to say that I wasted my money on a new phone that did not meet my expectations. I hope that Apple will take this issue seriously and provide a solution to this problem.

I have the same problem, but it is on the front facing selfie style camera, it is always out of focus and extremely grainy. Compared to my previous 13+ this is a huge downgrade, I have exchanged it for a new phone thinking perhaps it’s a hardware issue and it’s not fixed. I took it to the Apple Store and the genius bar through my support contract and although everybody acknowledges that they see the issue, nobody has fixed, no one even acknowledges that Apple knows about the problem.

I have the same issue with my iPhone 15 pro “front camera”, once the picture is taken it comes blurry and no resolution. I had iPhone 13 before and I expected that the new iPhone will be much more better .. please find a solution for this problem 🥹 all the selfie pictures, like they are coming from Halloween party, not from the real life.
