Reset to factory default settings

I purchased a new iPad 9th generation. If I manually update the iPad and upgrade the software to the latest version if I then reset the iPad to the factory default will the ipad retain the updated operating system?

iPad, iPadOS 16

It will update it to the highest supported version if possible, so if it is currently running the highest it will reinstall that.

See these support articles:

How to erase your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

"Learn how to wipe information from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and restore your device to factory settings." Without using a computer. Does not reinstall iOS.

If neither of the above work, read the "If you can't erase your device" section in the last link, including the last part about contacting Apple.
