What causes icons to stack in the upper right corner on MacBook Pro?

Just updated to 14.2 and the bug persists. Have reported it multiple times but I think it's time to go back to Ventura.

Apple, you broke the core functionality and don't even flinch. Bug persists since sonoma introduced. For half a year! WTF?!?

Sonoma 14.4.1 MB Pro 16" 2019.

The only workaround is changing size in view options.

I've tried trashing the Finder prefs as well as the terminal fix, no luck.

@demuck, I tried that command line (pasted) in Terminal on my 2019 16-inch MBP, pressed return, and got the following response:

usage: killall [-delmsqvz] [-help] [-I]

            [-u user] [-t tty] [-c cmd] [-SIGNAL] [cmd]...

At least one option or argument to specify processes must be given.

I don't know whether it also had the desired effect.

I too have been plagued with this issue. It's super frustrating. Sonoma 14.1 sees no change or fix either. I submitted a bug report weeks ago. I recall this being a similar issue back with macOS Mojave I believe it was. Makes me never want to update, but then you have to eventually.

It's a temporary fix—the bug *will* reappear.

The long Terminal command documented in this thread works—also temporarily—but moves all your icons to where someone else thinks they should be.

THIS HAS GOT TO BE FIXED, APPLE.

The problem is that every "fix" suggested in this thread is temporary—the bug always comes back.

Worse: Many of the suggested "fixes" completely undo your own arrangement of Desktop icons! >:(

The only *real* fix is for Apple to actually fricking FIX the bug. It's inexcusable that they have not, yet.

Just updated to the newly released Sonoma 14.2. So far my bug appears to have been squashed! Time will tell if it stays that way.

My primary annoyance bug was when I use desktop spaces. I utilize about four separate desktop spaces. If I were to open a finder window or another app that I have set to show on all desktop spaces on a desktop space other than the most far left one it would take over that entire desktop space putting it on top of everything. The only way I could get it to go away is to close the app or finder window. Was super annoying.

I'm using a M2 MacBook Air 15" where I see my issue happening. I'll try disabling snap to grid and see how that works. Great suggestion.

Gave that a go. Didn't seem to make a difference sadly...

This issue has me really close to downgrading back to macOS Ventura. Ventura is solid! Come on APPLE!!
