Can’t drop clips from browser to timeline

I’m new to FCPX. I’m having trouble getting my clips from the browser to the timeline. I select a clip, drag and drop but it bounces back up to the browser and doesn’t load. It’s a newbie problem that can’t seem to find the answer to.

thank you

Assuming you have created a project as Tom suggested you don't need to drag and drop the clip. Just select it in the Browser and press the E key and the clip will automatically jump into the timeline.

To create a project, simply press the Command and N keys and in the window that opens give it a name and press the OK button.
