Synchronization

One of my browsers has asked me to "Turn on synchronization." I don't know what that is, or whether it's worth doing. Any comments? Any downside?

Which browser?

I know Chrome has such a feature. It allows you to synchronize data such are bookmarks, history, and autofill passwords across multiple devices. For example, I use Chrome for work. I have synchronize enabled so that my work bookmarks and autofill passwords for the numerous government websites I have to access are easily available whether I'm in my office or working from home.
