unable to share photes via airdrop system

when i click share icon on my mac the airdop extention is grayed i am not able to use airdrop system

Click accept on Airdrop but nothing happens If I try to airdrop anything to my Mac, a window appears asking to accept or reject. If I pick accept, it appears that the file is being transferred, but then nothing appears in my downloads folder. Every other Mac I use (I have a few) works as you would expect. The only way to use airdrop on my computer is to open the airdrop window on the *receiving* computer. Then, once I check the downloads folder, the file will be there. How to exchange files between Mac Studio M1 Max and iMac 10.1 when AirDrop and DropBox fail? How do I exchange files quick and easy and reliably between a Mac Studio M1 Max, Sonoma 14.8.3 and an iMac 10.1, El Capitan 10.11.6 when AirDrop does not work and file-sharing with DropBox is only hit and miss? Do you have both Bluetooth & WiFi turned on? Both are necessary.
