finder not responding...computer screen icon image showing in right corner of finder icon on dock

When I try to force quit finder on my old 2015 MacBook due to it freezing, instead of allowing me to force quite, it gives option to relaunch. When I click on relaunch, finder continues to freeze. When I clicked on the computer screen icon showing in finder's right corner, it opens the Google search page for my newer MacBook Pro laptop. When I say Google search page, it shows the page I recently searched on my new laptop. When I close the lid to my new laptop, this icon disappears. However, the finder still freezes. I had my new laptop lid open because i was looking at something to print from on it on my old laptop which is linked to my printer. Somehow my two laptops got connected together. How do I unconnect them so my Google search is not linked to my old laptop. Also, how do I unfreeze finder to work again. Again, I tried force quit as well as powered off my old laptop, but it doesn't work.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.2

Hello cnovice,

Thanks for choosing the Apple Support Communities. We understand you're having some troubles with Finder. We have a few steps that may help you resolve this.

  1. Fully restart your Mac and test again. - Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support
  2. Once fully restarted test again.
  3. If issues persist, use safe mode to rule out third-party software - Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support
  4. In terms of Google, it may be that your search history from Safari is being synced in System Settings > Click your account > Click iCloud > Click Show All > Toggle Safari to the off position.

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
