Can I hack the grid spacing in Finder to be smaller than the menu's minimum?

In "View Options" in the finder, there's a slider in icon view that decreases the grid space.

I would love to make this grid tighter. When I'm scoping out a folder full of photos, I would love to just have them all packed in tight, so I can see more photos without having to scroll. It would really help me pick favourites etc.

Are there any hacks or terminal commands or plists where I can make this smaller??

So much wasted space! I know Steve liked a clean design, but please give me more options!
