apple fitness app, os17, and elevation changes

After updating my Apple watch (6) and iPhone (SE v2) to iOS 17, my runs and every day activity are showing greater elevation changes than before. In fact my average daily floors climbed went from 43 before the upgrade to 249 after. This new information does not jive with the reality of my running and activities. Anyone else notice this? Any thoughts?

Hello PhillyRunninMan,

If your flight/elevation results are incorrect, you can try calibrating the watch to see if it improves the accuracy: Calibrate your Apple Watch for improved Workout and Activity accuracy

You'll also want to make sure the watch and the paired phone are both on the latest versions of Watch OS and iOS.

Update your iPhone

Update your Apple Watch

If the results are still not accurate after those steps, you'll want to contact Apple to report the issue: Get Support

Cheers!

Well, re-calibrated the watch during a 20+ min walk in the open as described. Did a second one for good measure. Absolutely no difference during my run—3100 ft elevation change on the watch going up and down a 800 ft change. Tried to ask the question in Apple Support but it turned in to a bad software loop. Will try again sometime but charging up my Polar watch for running.
