Forgot passcode from find my

I gave my laptop to my wife. I thought they deleted myself as an administrator, but she said that she was logged on with my credentials by then locked that MacBook as a joke, and then played a tone. Well, it wasn’t the greatest joke because now I can’t seem to unlock it. I’m not sure of the passcode and have removed that device from Find My. I don’t know how to undo all these moronic steps.

Hello PennyW13,

It sounds like Lost Mode was enabled on the Mac. Details on that may be found here: Mark a device as lost in Find My on Mac - Apple Support

This page will help to provide available details for turning off the 'Mark as Lost' option: Turn off Mark as Lost in Find My on Mac - Apple Support

Unlock a Mac
When you find your lost Mac, do one of the following:
Mac with Apple silicon: Enter your Apple ID and password.
• See the Apple Support articles If you forgot your Apple ID email address or phone number and If you forgot your Apple ID password.
Intel-based Mac: Enter the numeric passcode on the device to unlock it (the one you set up when you marked your Mac as lost).
• If you forgot the passcode, you can recover it using Find Devices on iCloud.com. See Use Lost Mode in Find Devices in the iCloud User Guide.

Cheers.
