My playlists have vanished

I have a Mac Studio running MacOS Ventura 13.5.2 and keep my music files on an external SSD drive. Everything worked fine yesterday and I was able to play music to my Apple Homepod. Today when I started Music, it couldn't find the music library. I pointed it at where it should be on the external drive and still nothing. I deleted the music plist file and it recreated it when I restarted Music but still no joy. All my music files are on the external drive but there is no "music Music.musiclibrary" file present (can't remember if there used to be one there). I imported all my music files into the standard Music library on my main drive and then copied the resulting "music Music.musiclibrary" file to the external drive. I can now play music as before but my playlists are gone so will need recreating, which is a pain. Are these stored anywhere where I can recover them?

Do you have any form of backup, old .itl files, or a synced device the lists could be recovered from? Did you check for a .musiclibrary file at ~/Music/Music/Music Library.musiclibrary? If that exists you might check inside the package file to see if it contains any .tmp files that could be a recent version of your database complete with playlists.
