ICS File No Visible In Download Folder

I have been trying to download an ICS file to open and place in my calendar. I have downloaded it multiple times and the animation occurs showing it going to the download folder but it isn't visible to then open and put into the calendar on my mac. I can use spotlight search to search for the file and it finds it in the download folder but it isn't visible when I go directly to the download folder. I can open the folder containing the ICS file from the spotlight search and it shows the file then but not if I go directly to the folder. Very strange!! Any advice as to what's happened? I'm on a Macbook Air 2020, running Sonoma 14.1 but I think this started before I updated with the new OS.

Updating this post. I have found that it isn't just calendar files. Today I needed to download some data from my engergy producer and I'm experiencing the same issue with the CSV file. I direct the download to the download folder, go to the folder and can not see it (I do have a video file that was previously downloaded and can see it), then conduct a search with Spotlight and it finds the file and shows in the directory info at the bottom of the screen that it is in the download folder.
