Can a fully discharged Gen 2 Apple Pencil be revived? (Yes)
I did and will explain how. But first, I need to explain some basics. When your Pencil reports that it is discharged, it is really not. There is still enough juice for it to report status. When you place the Pencil on the iPad, it talks to the tablet (I’m an Apple Pencil and I need charging). The problem is that when it is disconnected for a very long time, it becomes so drained that it can no longer tell the iPad to charge it.
The way I revived mine was to use another Apple Pencil (we have two at home) and place them side by side and connect them to the iPad. The good Pencil is recognized by the tablet and instructs it to send a current. The dead Pencil receives the current as well and starts charging.
It’s not easy to hold them both in place but it can be done. You almost have to shove the good one out of the way once you get the status on the screen. After doing this several times, the dead stylus had enough of a charge to talk to the tablet directly. At that point I let it charge all the way. It is working fine now. I am using it to write this.
