How do I stop my contacts from syncing with my family member

My son has a different Apple ID and our contacts are syncing.

I noticed again yesterday that my brother and dads contact details have changed name on my phone as my son has added them to his phone.

I can’t see where we’re going wrong, I asked my friend who has his daughter under his family on Apple to compare our settings and they’re the same. I don’t have it as sharing contacts so I really don’t understand.

Any ideas of how to resolve this? It’s really annoying!!

iPhone 14, iOS 16

Hi Ranneburton,

Contact syncing by iCloud requires that the same Apple ID be signed in on each device. This means that if you and your son are using different Apple ID accounts on your devices, the contacts are not syncing via iCloud.

That said, even though the contacts may not be syncing with iCloud, it does not mean they aren't syncing via another service. If you and your son share an email address, or other account that supports this function, it may be syncing that way. Hi,

Thanks for your response, but we have no other devices and we’re using different Apple ID. So I still don’t understand what’s going on.

we have an iPhone 11 signed in with his Apple ID, and my iPhone 13 signed in with my Apple ID. He’s listed under my family and that’s it… no contacts shared on the settings so I don’t have a clue. From googling around it seems like a lot of other people have the same problem but can’t find an answer either.
