Apps asking for full access to my calendar

I updated my iPhone last night to 17.0.3. This morning the app my daughter’s team is using said I needed to give it “full access” to my calendar in order to continue syncing events to my calendar. I really like the ability to have all her games and practices added directly to my calendar, but why do they need full access to MY events? And what is going to happen with that info? I don’t understand the reason for this change??? Why would I want to give my personal information out to random apps?

iPhone 12, iOS 17

You ask very relevant questions, and I think you are right to be cautious. The team might not be malicious but it only takes one mistake for them to let something inside their security...

I suggest you might consider creating an additional shared calendar just for the daughter's team events. They can have access to that without seeing your main personal calendar, and because you created it you remain the owner with admin rights.

I have something similar for my personal and work calendars (using Outlook) so I'm not 100% certain you can do it with the default Apple calendar, but it will be worth a closer look. Begin with a look at this link to the User Guide,
