SONOMA : FULL CATASTROPHY

Installed on my Mac Studio no prob. but on my Macbook Pro (2015), it refuses to work. I now learn that it is not compatible!!!

Why then was it offered as an upgrade on a computer when it is not compatible?

I am now trying to revert to the original OS (control+shift+command+R) with no success.

Computer seems being stuck and never able to do it.

Any solutions?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 14.0

Does this help at all? Follow this path to restore previous macOS.

This requires erasing, reformatting, and initializing the parent drive as new in order to fall back.

From Internet Recovery > DiskUtility > Show All Devices

Full catastropy - Part II

3 hours on the phone with Apple support with 3 different reps.

The first one can't help. The 2nd one asks me to erase part of my HD. Still cannot go back to Ventura.

The 3rd one, a senior rep, says the 2nd made a mistake and that I should erase the whole disk. Still cannot go back to Venrua. She finally gives up and takes a rendez-vous for me at the Apple Store hoping the geniuses that work there will be able to fix the problem.

The next day, I try again to re-install Ventura (Option-command-R) and...Miracle, it works.

Migration is difficult but in the end, it works.

Only thing is, no 3rd party apps!!

Luckily, I can copy/paste the Application folder AND the prefs file from my Mac Studio.

All is now back to normal.

My advice before you upgrade: Make a copy of everything including the apps and the prefs folder

I have seen, sometimes, where the Software Update Applet on macOS 12.7 Monterey has mis-identified a MacBook Pro 2015 computer to upGrade to macOS 13 Ventura ( which it does not qualify for )

But using the same machine ( 2015 ) being offered and allowing to even download macOS 14 Sonoma, let alone attempt to install - have not yet seen that before.

That does not mean impossible.

To Firmly establish what computer is being used and the Actual Model and Year of this machine - the requested Screen Shot would put this question to it's logical end.
