Hey Siri Chaos Post Sonoma 14.0 Update

I'm reaching out to discuss a technical challenge I've been facing since updating to Sonoma 14.0, specifically concerning Siri's activation and functionality across devices.

Issue Description:

After the Sonoma 14.0 update, I've encountered a perplexing behavior with Siri. When I activate Siri on my MacBook, which is directly in front of me, Siri on my iPhone — located 20 feet away in a different room — also activates. This simultaneous activation results in both devices often providing completely independent responses. The chaos peaks when both devices play music simultaneously, especially when it's music I didn't intend to play. Turning off the unintended music becomes a task in itself.

Steps Taken:

  1. Checked settings on both devices to ensure they are correctly configured for Siri activation.
  2. Ensured that both devices are logged into the same Apple ID.
  3. Restarted both devices multiple times.
  4. Disabled and re-enabled Siri on both devices.
  5. Tested Siri activation in different environments to rule out any external sound triggers.
  6. Updated both devices to ensure they are running the latest software versions.
  7. Checked for any known interference or overlapping Wi-Fi or Bluetooth signals.
  8. Reset all settings on the iPhone to ensure no misconfigurations.
  9. Checked for any software updates specifically for Siri or related services.
  10. Turned off "Hey Siri" on both devices, restarted them, and then turned the feature back on.
  11. Signed out of iCloud on both devices, restarted, and then signed back in to ensure proper syncing.
  12. Checked the microphone input levels and settings on both devices to ensure Siri is hearing the activation command correctly.
  13. Disabled any third-party apps that might interfere with Siri's functionality to rule out app conflicts.
  14. Performed an SMC (System Management Controller) reset on the MacBook and a network settings reset on the iPhone to address potential underlying issues.

Engagement with Senior Advisors:

I've dedicated several hours working with Apple's senior advisors to troubleshoot this issue. Despite following their extensive guidance and recommendations, the end solution was to run my devices in safe mode and send in logs for further examination. Disappointingly, after submitting the necessary logs, there has been no subsequent feedback or proposed resolution from Apple's end. This silence, especially after such a significant time investment, has been quite frustrating.

Community Observations:

A review of Apple forums and community discussions indicates that I'm not alone in facing this challenge. Multiple users have reported similar erratic behaviors with Siri post the Sonoma 14.0 update.

Historical Perspective on Siri:

While many of us have come to accept that Siri has its quirks and may not always be as efficient as some of its counterparts, this new behavior post-update is beyond the usual. The chaos created by two Siri's operating independently is not just inconvenient but disrupts the overall user experience.

I'm eager to find out if there are any recognized solutions or workarounds for this issue. If there are additional diagnostic steps or logs that would assist in pinpointing and resolving this problem, please inform me.

Thank you for your time and assistance. I'm hopeful for a timely resolution.

Best regards,

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 14.0

I’m not using “Hey Siri” on my MacBook because this was a nuisance before Sonoma. If the Mac is directly in front of you, it would be best to invoke Siri manually by using the keyboard F5 key. Or if you have a touch bar key or Dock or menu bar icon to use. I get that your hands might be full though.

Siri has become highly sensitive since our devices were updated. it’s not isolated to Macs.
