How to unlock portrait mode on iPhone?

When reading text or viewing photos my iPhone 8s will not change from portrait to landscape mode. It used to do this easily by rotating the phone. How do you get it back ?

iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 16

I had this problem too. I went to Control center and unlocked portrait mode and nothing changed. So I turned the phone off and then on and it was solved so you could try that.
