Cannot do search in Macintosh SSD, iCloud Drive and One drive

Hello all, I am facing quite a weird situation and would appreciate any hint that could help.

I work with an iMac (see below) and last June bought a WD My Passport 2TB SSD that since installed, started to present instabilities, and affected the machine behavior. Being an old and satisfied WD customer, using their external HDs for decades, I just couldn’t believe an external SSD, could be so bad and purchased a 2nd device with the same characteristics, even with the purpose to do performance comparisons. I was able to demonstrate to WD 1st device was bad, probably a hardware defect and returned to be replaced

The 2nd device indeed performed well for a certain time, but then begun to present instabilities, like causing iMac to restart, but main difficulty was that device didn’t accept searches no showing any results. Sometimes it would accept and show search results, but only when freshly connected.

So far, this searching issue was only happening with the WD SSD, but all other storage devices in my iMac accepted and performed searches normally. Today I noted the weird and worrying thing: only one My Passport 1 TB Hard Drive accepts search. No other storage device, Macintosh HD (which is a 1 TB SSD), iCloud Drive and OneDrive also are not accepting searches.  I restarted the iMac some 2 or 3 times, but it didn’t help.

I wonder if this 2nd WD SSD caused some issue which is not allowing searches. Of course, this device was ejected and is not connected to the iMac.  Is there any way to reestablish the search function

Thanks   Paulo
