What happened to my printer icons in Sonoma?

Ever since I installed macOS 14.0 Sonoma on my M1 iMac—and I go to print—I notice the printer icon in the dock no longer shows the proper icon image. I have two printers, one a Lexmark b&w laser printer, and the other an Epson XP-15000 color inkjet. In Ventura, the icons in the dock showed properly. But now the icon for either printer is some generic image. Printing is OK, but something's amiss.

Sonoma—

A new print icon called “Print Center “ replaces all of the old printer icons. Everything works as expected.

In Print Center, use the "Printer -> Add to Dock" menu.

Agree completely, this is crazy. I used to have two shortcuts (aliases) on my desktop to my printers, one a basic laser jet, the other a multi-function printer/scanner/fax unit. Sonoma has killed the shortcuts and won't let me recreate them, instead insisting I use a kindergarten-style "Print Center" thing. Now I can't even access the scanner function on the MFC unit. Who the **** thought this was a good idea? Obviously no-one who ever used the function! It's made even more ridiculous by the degree of difficulty in finding the printer settings now the System Preferences have been screwed up to make them more "Phone like". Well, newsflash... this is a computer, not a handheld device. I have a big screen and want to see the Preferences icons back. Anyone else? Feedback has been sent to Apple, not in the hope that anything will change, because I think we are way beyond that now, but just to vent my frustration about all these changes, just for the sake of change. Please Apple, fix what is broken and leave the rest alone. We don't need a new OS every 12 months, along with all the grief it brings.

Completely agree. Like your kindergarten reference, and like even more your citing the new OS every fall. Why? This isn’t a new car. All those developers and third party app makers are playing catch up all the time, forking over their 30%.

The thing that rankles me is that they dumbed down the preferences and called them settings, then made them more phone-like in format. But I do get that they wanted everything the same across all devices. It’s fine to recall the old days and the old ways, but things have improved overall. At least we don’t have to rebuild the desktop.
