Presenter Overlay not working as advertised

The new Presenter Overlay feature seems potentially useful. But didn’t Apple promise it would work with all video conferencing apps? I’ve tried it with Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, etc… but it only seems to work with FaceTime. Has anyone else had any luck with third party video apps?

Not really. It does say it should with Zoom. It also stated the following…

"You can also use Presenter Overlay with other videoconferencing apps, such as Zoom. Presenter Overlay appears in the Video menu while using compatible apps; if it doesn’t appear, it’s not available for that app. For more information on using Presenter Overlay with third-party apps, read the developer’s instructions or explore the app’s menus and settings."

Hi Adam,

Today is October 7th and I just upgraded to Sonoma. I tested Zoom and Presenter Overlay is working well. I tried Google Meet and Whereby on Chrome and they didn't work. However, I tried them on Safari and they do work there.

I suspect that desktop video conference apps should work just fine. Any other that only work directly on the browser as a web app will need to be launched via Safari for it to work.

Let me know if you have any questions.
