iPhone 14 Pro 0.5x mode is taking distorted pictures, but takes normal pictures on 1x and up

Screenshot of how the 0.5x should take the picture

The distorted/zoomed in/somehow turned sideways picture it actually takes.

I was looking forward to using the wide angle feature and i can’t use it because of how much it alters what’s supposed to be taken.

Hi btomerlin,

sorry but it is normal that a "wide angle lens" will produce a different view / distortion than a normal length.

That is a fact since the beginning.

Every lens angle has its benefits, but also its disadvantages.

You have to learn when to use what lens / setting on your phone.

0,5x / 1,0x / 2x is Apples way to define the focal length on their iPhone.

I don't know what focal length 0,5x is, but I assume the 1,0x is similar to the way your eyes see things.

Please have a look at this video, start at 2:45

The impact of different focal length are shown at 5:15

Wide angle is good as long as you don't have straight lines and 90° angles, if you take a picture of a mountain you will not see the distortion.

In a room it can / will look strange.
