Apple Music playing a different song then selected

When I select a song from a list in Apple Music a song further down the list will play.

Subsequently all songs from the one I picked to the one playing will do the same thing.

This has happened to a number of different songs at different positions in the list.

If I delete one of the songs that will not play correctly and import it again, it will work.

I have hundreds of songs and it seems to be doing this to a large number.

This is occurring on a Mac mini and has had a software upgrade and still doing it.

Current version is Sonoma Version 14.0

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I upgraded to 14.3.1 this morning, and am having the same issue with Music. It doesn't play the song I want, instead it choose 1 of 3 different songs from my my main song list. It doesn't matter which song of 10,000, it just plays these three. Driving me crazy - how can this be fixed?

I'm having the same issue. If I click on a song it plays another. If I right click on the song I intended to play, > View in finder, it will bring me directly to the appropriate file, I double click and it will play just fine in iTunes and from thereon out. . The files are all stored locally on my m1 mbp's drive. My music collection is ~70Gb so clicking on every one isnt desirable, and I'd prefer not to lose my play counts... If I remember correctly didn't iTunes used to have a function in the file menu that verified the valid song location and attempt to correct any file path discrepancies based upon similar file path discrepancies? I can't seem to find that. I'm also just playing via songs.... Playing through playlists, the songs that won't play still won't play.

Thank you for getting back.

- I have not selected a playlist, I select songs and pick from the list.

After your question I did try and play from a play list, the same thing happens.

- If I try to play the one above the wanted song does not play.

- No errors or messages it thinks for a few seconds then the incorrect song is played.

If I delete the song from the song list and copy it over again it works.

I have about 1000 + songs and it has done it to about 25% at random.

I only noticed this when I added a few new songs and wanted to clean out some.

This is occurring to previously playable songs also.

I performed a sync to update songs on my iPhone and all songs play as expected on the iPhone with Apple Music.

Something else I noticed if I go to my music directory in finder that song that did not play in Apple Music will not play from finder using Apple Music.

However if I select the same song in finder and use QuickTime it plays.

Thanks for those additional details Raemod,

From here, our recommendation is to report the issue to Apple directly.

You can connect with Apple directly using either Get Support or if you're in a region without direct support options, you can also Contact Apple for support and service.

Hope that helps.

Take care.

Hey Raemod,

To help us better isolate this issue, can you confirm the following?

  • Does this happen only with one specific playlist or any playlist you create?
  • Are you able to play the intended song if you try to play the one above it?
  • Is there any error or message when the intended song won't play?

Let us know and we'll follow up based on those details.

Cheres!
