How do I save files on iPhone to iCloud as Default?

Previous posts suggest setting the default save within each App in Settings.

In iOS 16.6.1, it does not contain the option for "Default Storage" in each App.

However, if it did... does Apple really expect me to go into the settings of over 50 Apps to change the same setting!?

I really do not see the benefit of saving ANY files to your phone and not to iCloud where it will be backed up and accessable on your other devices? 2 locations to save - 1 is useful, one is not.

Can anyone provide any guidance on this please?

Hi JamsJar,

We would love to help you with this. So what you're saying is almost right for the apps, but it isn't that complicated. You actually do not have to open every app to accomplish this. It's much easier because there is actually an app list, and you can just go down through and select each app. When the apps are selected, the files will then be available on all of the devices you're signed into with the same Apple ID as long as it is enabled.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap your name
  3. iCloud
  4. Then turn on or off each of the apps listed below iCloud Drive.

We also recommend checking out the below link for additional information.

Keep third-party app data up to date on all your Apple devices with iCloud

We hope that helps.

Cheers!
