iCloud sync issues

I have a MacBook Pro with Sonoma 14.0 installed.

I have a sync issue between my Mac and iCloud. Here’s what happened…

  • Under System Settings, I signed into my Apple ID.
  • I then turned iCloud “on”
  • An iCloud folder was created in the Sidebar on Finder that contains Numbers, Shortcuts, Desktop, Documents and Downloads subfolders - as it’s supposed to do - so far so good.
  • Under each of these folders iCloud created files - so far so good.
  • All Folders and files had a cloud icon with an arrow pointing down, meaning they needed to be downloaded - so far so good.
  • Then, iCloud started downloading all folders and files and once they had downloaded, the cloud icon disappeared meaning they had been downloaded and I had access to them - still, so far so good…
  • Finally, all the files have been downloaded and none had a cloud icon anymore, meaning I had access to everything iCloud has downloaded. It took about 5 hours to download 13,000 items!
  • Then, all of a sudden, the following day, ALL 13,000 files had a cloud icon, meaning I had to re-download them to get access to them. Can anybody help and advise please?
