iCloud .nosync not working on Sonoma 14.0

Before I updated to Sonoma 14.0 I had a few folders with ".nosync" so iCloud wouldn't sync them but afterwards I couldn't open them and the ".nosync" solution won't work anymore.

Is there a new way to stop folders from syncing with iCloud ?

Otherwise someone could switch to using aliases

Hi All,

I know this probably isn't the solution you want to hear, but I have found a fix for now until apple releases an update to officially fix it...

Boot your Mac into safe mode > create a new folder with the .nosync on (Do not rename the folder to add .nosync) > then copy over the files/folders from the old folder to the new folder you just created with the .nosync on.

This should then not sync the folder.

You might see the iCloud icon saying awaiting upload, close the finder window and go back to the folder and the iCloud icon will be gone.

Honestly this isn't ideal at all but is a fix for now until Apple hopefully fix it in coming updates.

Really hope this helps!!

Thanks

I symlink into my iCloud folder and have a very specific folder structure for all of my work-related files where each project / company have a repos.nosync where I keep by git projects. I also use it for all of my dot-files.

Once I updated to Sonoma, all of these folders started syncing to iCloud, we are talking millions of files.

How they didn't communicate this breaking change / bug is beyond me.
