Want to know the year with a fast glance? Forget it on a mac.

How do we get the year to show in the menu bar?

I need it for reference (duh) as well as screen shots for auditing purposes.

On latest Sonoma version on M1.

There is no adjustment in Control Center, Menu Bar, Clock setting.

Incredibly, it actually shows the year in the Date & Time settings!

There is no provision in Sonoma to show the year in the Date/Time field of the menu bar. If you want an on demand year notification, you can simply click the Calendar app in your Dock, or with more effort, add a Desktop widget named for a Shortcuts application that sends in a Notification of the current year.

For some time now, one can use the Reminder Application, in this case to remember you to check the Year.

It can be set to remind the user at a schedule you choose, hourly, daily and to run at a specific time including when the computer is set to startup

There are many reasons. Most of all, for screen shots, as I said in the post.

But to question a need to see the year (which, BTW, a feature that was oddly removed) is very short sighted and a bit ableist. Customers with memory loss from covid, chemo therapy, migraine, and other medical conditions just, need to see the full date and time together. So simple… so not needing to be insulting to anyone.

I did send feedback.

Check out itsycal, which allows you to customize the display to include year - and see if it works for you:

https://www.mowglii.com/itsycal/

"Itsycal can optionally accept a datetime pattern which it will use to show the current date and/or time next to its icon in the menu bar. For example, if y is used for the year, yy might produce 17 whereas yyyy produces 2017. "
