Terminal slowed to a crawl. M1 MBP 2020 updated to Sonoma over the weekend.

Terminal app has slowed to a crawl. normal use. even navigating is difficult cd .. ls mkdir. this is the first time ever since purchasing this m1 in 2020 that I've ever seen it pause to think. Ive done some reading could it be logs.. or apache on my localhost. Im also thinking it might not even be related to the update. for example:

$>traceroute -d apple.com just hangs.... any input would be much appreciated. love my M1 silicon
