Debit Card removed from ApplePay

One of my debit cards was removed from ApplePay. I didn't request it or change anything recently on my phone. iOS 16.7 Iphone SE2. I removed the card and tried to re-add it. Apple says I need to call my banks to verify. Banks says card is fully operational and no need to verify. Further they say it is an Apple issue. Suggestions?
