Middle mouse binded to "show desktop"

Hi.

I recently started to use a macbook pro m1, and when I use my external mouse (3rd party) whenever I press the middle mouse button for more than one second or if I press and move the mouse, it automatically show the desktop, as if there is a shortcut added to that specific action. This is very problematic because I use Fusion 360 to design and I can't move the design space because it requires the middle mouse button to do so.

In the keyboard and mouse shortcuts menu I have everything with "-" selected.

Does anyone has the same issue ?

Thanks

Just starting to learn Fusion360 and ran into this exact problem. here's how you fix it.

go to settings>Desktop & Dock

Click on "Keyboard and Mouse Shortcuts" and a separate window will open

scroll down to "Show Desktop" and Mouse shortcut is "Mouse Button 3"

select and change to "-".

Done.

Until yesterday, I used to hold down the middle button and move my Gembird Bluetooth mouse in Fusion 360 to move the 3D view. Then I upgraded to macOS Sonoma 14.0, and the same actions now cause "Swipe between full screen apps" and "Flight Control". Holding down the middle button for about ½ second causes "Show desktop".

How do I make the OS stop responding to the middle mouse button?

"That sounds like a question that should be asked of the mouse's manufacturer's customer support personnel" – definitely not. The mouse just supports the Bluetooth HID profile, which does not know about macOS or any other OS. The problem is that macOS started reacting to the middle mouse button.

P. S. Just checked: and the same problem occurs with wired Logitech mouse.

P. P. S. There are options to make the "3rd mouse button" to perform "Misson Control", "Application Window" and "Show Desktop" actions in Desktop & Dock -> Shortcuts, but they were off by default. I tried to turn them on, exit the Settings, the turn them off and exit the Settings again, but it did not help. It seems that ignoring these options is hardcoded in the OS my mistake.

I installed an app called LinearMouse and I bind the middle key to default and everything but I have the same behaviour. It's almost as if macOS is assuming that middle mouse click should take that action by default. It's weird behaviour but I have no idea why it's happening. I have just set up the laptop, it's brand new.

Cheers

It will do you no good contacting the Apple Developers for an issue related to a Third Party Device that appears to need Third Party Software " Gembird Bluetooth mouse in Fusion 360 "

That issue, is solely the responsibility of that Developer to make their software work on macOS 14.1 Sonoma

Not Apple to make their Software work with a Device that they do not own

Apple Does Support their Apple Devices like the Magic Mouse 2 and the various offering for Keyboards and Bluetooth Trackpad

Aha-a-a, ALL mice from ALL manufacturers which used the BASIC driver provided by the OS suddenly stopped working like before in the new OS, and ALL these are SEPARATE issues which must be solved by the MANUFACTURERS of the devices by creating new DRIVERS :-)))

When no specufic drivers were required in any OS including macOS (until Sonoma) :) You definitely don't understand how mice work. They use STANDARD USB or Bluetooth subprotocol, therefore the OS manufacturer writes a basic/generic driver himself.

The issue, of course, shows up everywhere in the new OS. You can test it yourself. I bet that the topic starter mentioned Fusion 360 as the place there the appearance of this problem is most painful for him/her.

Hello DqP. Thank you for your answer. As I was in a rush to start and finish the project, I eventually changed to a Windows workstation, which I am also more comfortable with. I did not try your method, although I definitely will if I use Fusion 360 on Mac again.

I also received a magic mouse, and I never tried it with fusion. Who knows, it solves the issues with middle mouse :)
