How to retrieve lost music in sync

I’ve been using iTunes for 15 yrs, and have had to do so over several different devices and computers. Needless to say I’m now reluctant and hesitant to “sync”, for fear of losing music I’ve had to load; and Reload. I’ve gotten older, of course, so I’m more confused how sync actually works. Will I lose all music on device, or will I lose what is on current computer? As it is, I’ve recently had to “upgrade” device so playlists on Old iPhone did not transfer over to New one. Even tho I was Certain I carefully backed up before changing over. Help?!

Hello diTunz,

We have a great support article that might help with explaining this for you. Please take a look at it here: Use iTunes to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with your computer - Apple Support.

One important thing to note: "You can only sync your device with one iTunes library at a time. If you see a message that your device is synced with another iTunes library, your device was previously connected to another computer. If you click "Erase and Sync" in that message, all content of the selected type on your device will be erased and replaced with content from this computer."

We hope this helps. Let us know if we can assist with anything else at all. Take care.
