Download files from Chrome are being created as hidden files

All files downloaded by Google Chrome are being downloaded as hidden files IF I direct the file to the default download file set in Google Chrome. If I direct the download to any other folder not designated as the default, the file is downloaded correctly and visible in the folder. I know the file is going to the correct location because I can find it in the default folder if I perform a Spotlight Search for the file. Also, I can force the display of hidden files in the folder, and I see that the file did indeed load and in the proper place.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to a setting that needs to be changed in Google Chrome to make it stop doing this?

I found a thread on Reddit that explains the bug. In Chrome if the option to choose the folder for each download is toggled ON then any file that you allow to download to the default folder that is set up in Chrome will load into that default folder as a hidden file. You can choose any other folder and it will download normally.

If that option is toggled off, which means you will not be able to choose and Chrome will automatically use the default folder, then it will download the file as a normal file. It's some bug with Chrome that needs to be fixed.

Thanks for your help though. I appreciate it.

You could either 1) toggle off the option to choose a folder for each download AND make the desktop your default download location, OR 2) you can leave the download folder, or any folder you choose, as your default, toggle on the choice to select your download destination and then choose the desktop each time. It all depends on where you place the majority of your downloads. I would probably use option 1 and let everything download to the desktop if that's what you find most convenient.

As for Chrome correcting the error, I do not know. I reported the issue but I have no connection with them to know if they are working on a fix or not. I will simply have to go in and change my settings to test it occasionally.
