Sonoma breaks hardware attached USB sound input / output devices

Prior to ugrading to Sonoma, my Mac was running Ventura. Attached to the Mac mini was a Focusrite iTrack Solo via USB. This was used for sound input and output as may DAW for recording. This is now broken and the USB iTrack Solo cannot be seen under the USB settings in System Information.

Anyone else have a similar problem? Anyone else know of a fix to this.

Apart from the software update, nothing else has changed, so can only point the finger at Sonoma...

This is frustrating and surprised that it should have happened, when software updates should be beta tested...

Hey all,

I've been having the same issue with my Behringer UMC22 - I've just found this

https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/15437020104082-macOS-Sonoma-Recording-Input-Issues

This fixed it! I've alway got the "Voice Isolation" on for when I use my headphones, turned this off and my interface went back to working as normal!

I was able to start it working again. I think the problem was that audio interface been plugged in to USB during OS upgrade. Powering off the interface does not fix the problem. Finally I solved it by running my interface on windows. After it started to work on Windows it works fine with macos sonoma. Therefore I think the problem is with the upgrade process.

I have checked with Focusrite and they have had similar complaints. Bearing mind Focusrite is a pretty big brand, widely used by a lot of folks who run a DAW, I'd be surprised if it hadn't been tested.

The iTrack Solo does not require any driver installation before plugging into a Mac. It jut works, but obviously comes with software an plugins for other Audio software.

Focusrite are investigating, but it is more than likely to be an Apple fix...

FWIW, Focusrite were surprised it stopped working as it IS meant to be compatible! Pretty sure it would be in Apple's interest not to pi55 off a whole community of people who use MAC OS for their DAWs as a preference over Windows say, only to break them. Due diligence on both sides is key and Beta testing didn't pick this up?

So do you use a Mac on Sonoma? Any issues?

Looking at some of the threads online, there's a whole host of things that Sonoma broke. AFS, DFS, SMB issues posted on MacRumours. Pretty important ones.

Guess, I'll back this out and stay with Ventura...

I saw another thread talking about clicking being an issue. I read one of the comments stating that there were issues when older USB devices were attached. WHen I disconnected my USB C adapter (for my external monitor and external drives) the problem went away.

But when it's connected, I can't click/drag items anywhere, I can't click menu items, I can't click most things. But removing the USB works.

This is the previous thread that commented on it. I believe the user name was Surfer.

But it sounds like this is happening here as well.

@ APPLE!!! please fix this! This is NOT a small thing.

Big Shot.

All my very simple USB interfaces are dead, not recognized exactly as described by the original thread. It's Apple not all our very simple and standard HW. You are right, we should have researched Sonoma But, APPLE IS A CREATIVE MUSIC COMPANY AND THE FACT THAT I CANNOT GET A SIMPLE AUDIO INTERFACE WORKING WITH SONOMA IS EMBARASSING. I'm ready to go back to PC Fxxx Apple
