Find My on my MacBook not updating Airtag location, but other devices are

My iPhone shows: "Backpack" AirTag at home with me. This is exactly where it is at.

My MacBook Air shows: "Backpack" AirTag last seen 2 days ago at a location I was at two days ago.

I have removed AirTag from Find my and reconnected it. I have also rebooted. Could it be the battery?

How can I check the AirTag's battery life?

Thank you

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 12.7

Hello LoveYahua,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities and for sharing these details. You've done a great job in troubleshooting this issue with your AirTag not updating its location on your MacBook. You might want to try refreshing things by resetting your AirTag. Steps on how to perform this task can be found here: How to reset your AirTag - Apple Support

1. Press down on the polished stainless steel battery cover of your AirTag and rotate counterclockwise until the cover stops rotating.
2. Remove the cover and the battery.*
3. Replace the battery.
4. Press down on the battery until you hear a sound. This sound means that the battery is connected.
5. When the sound finishes, repeat the process four more times, removing and replacing the battery, then pressing down on the battery until you hear a sound. You should hear a sound each time you press on the battery, for a total of five sounds. The fifth sound is different from the previous four. This indicates that the AirTag is now ready to pair.
6. Replace the cover by aligning the three tabs on the cover with the three slots on your AirTag.
7. Press down on the cover.
8. Rotate the cover clockwise until it stops rotating.

We hope these steps help. Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Take care.

Hey LoveYahua,

AirTags use the Location Services settings of devices around it to keep the location updated. With that in mind, make sure that your Mac is fully configured to take the best advantage of this.

While most of these items may already be on, it's a good idea to check them all. First, System Settings > Apple ID > iCloud and make sure that Find My Mac is turned on. Once that's verified, click Find My Mac and ensure that both Find My Mac and Find My Network show as On. From here, click on System Settings > Security & Privacy > Privacy tab > Location Services to ensure that it is on. Click Details next to System Services and make sure Find My Mac is turned on there as well.

If all of that is turned and set up correctly, your next stop will be to Contact Apple Support directly.

Be well.
