AirPods Pro 2nd Gen being mistaken for mistsmatch 1st gen and 2nd gen

Hi,

I am experiencing a very weird issue. I have a pair of 2nd generation airpods pro and lost my left earbud. after receiving my replacement left earbud from apple and trying to sync it back to the original case and original right earbud. iOS is adament that my original right earbud I had not lost is 1st generation but that the replacement is indeed 2nd generation, when the reality is that they are both 2nd generation. any help please?

Hi Brioxy,

Wondering just what kind of help you need from the community ...

if you're in doubt whether the airpods are mismatched or not : see if identifying each airpod helps:

Identify your AirPods - Apple Support

Eg: says: Find the model number: "You can use the model number of your AirPods to find out which generation of AirPods you have." "You can find it on your AirPods. The model number is on the first line of the text printed on the underside of each AirPod". (Check which generation the model numbers belong to in the above article.)

_________________________________________________________

If needed you can also: Find the serial number of your AirPods - Apple Support

eg: says: "If you have AirPods or AirPods Pro, your AirPods and your charging case share a serial number.

With AirPods Pro (1st and 2nd generation), each AirPod also has its own serial number, printed on the AirPod itself."

You can enter serial numbers online to see what info. is available to you there:

Check Your Service and Support Coverage - Apple Support

if you are sure the airpods are not mismatched and you need help pairing them:

Try: How to Set up your replacement AirPods or charging case - Apple Support

If there is a mismatch as iOS suggests:

What to do: If you see an alert that says "AirPods Mismatch" - Apple Support

___________

Alternatively:

If you decide to take both AirPods Pro and Case to an Apple Store to obtain help there:

(It is wise to take along proof of purchase and ID)

a Genius Bar reservation is recommended: Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple

All the best :-)
