"Strobe" effect

My favorite editing effect used to be called strobe. It looks similar to what many people call stop motion. However, this required no effort. It was just an effect that you would click, and the video would then display every other frame, or every third frame, etc... I miss that effect so much as it can add so much to a project, and was available in imovie HD.

Has anybody figured out a simple way to do this in imovie 09, other than manually choosing frames? If not, can somebody please give me simple instructions on how to get this clip to FC, use a strobe effect, and then import it back to imovie 09?
Thanks.

iMovie doesn't support any third party plug-INS and effects, so you are very much limited to those that it comes with.

All event clips are contained within the iMovie events folder which is found in your movie folder unless you have moved it or use external drives, Final cut can locate the clip via the import command, you can then apply your effect. you don't say what format the clip is in currently but as a one solution for all you could export as a QuickTime movie which should then be compatible with iMovie.
