Blue Caps lock indicator
In OS Sonoma, when I have my caps lock on, there is a blue indicator that follows the cursor. Does anyone know how to turn of that indicator?

Hello everyone,
There is no known way to disable this feature (new in macOS Sonoma.) I understand the need to hide it, especially if you are using FORTRAN or SQL, to name a few.
The only thing I can recommend is to let Apple know of this issue: Product Feedback - Apple.
Found a solution to permanently remove this "feature" on Reddit! Enjoy: https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/16vmjfc/oh_no_can_i_please_turn_off_the_new_caps_lock/kcq6nql/
(It's working for me perfectly)
As I said in a previous post, you can press the caps lock key again and you should be able to continue typing in caps without the indicator.

Yes. It doesn't appear in an earlier version of macOS.
That's not absolutely correct. You can't permanently disable it but you can temporarily.
I also wish to know how to turn off this indicator. I'm aware when Caps Lock is on because there's already an indicator light on the keyboard, and I can see the uppercase letters when typing. It's particularly frustrating to have this overlay appear while typing or moving the cursor, especially since I frequently use Caps Lock when writing SQL queries in code, or when typing out long constants. These constants may be derived from a code comment below, which then gets obscured by this blue Caps overlay.
Furthermore, this indicator also appears when switching between input languages. Also obscuring the view of below lines which I maybe trying to simultaneously read from when writing something in two languages directly above or below each line of text.
Most typists use the shift key to type caps as it releases as soon as the finger lifts.
I fail to understand why the caps lock is even being used in casual typing of general text.
The only time I use caps lock is when the task requires all caps which is not often at all and generally a personal choice.
I actually like the feature. It's already been a benefit once in a row.
But, if you just can't adjust and want Apple to know: Product Feedback - Apple
Caps is used constantly by those who work with SQL or programming languages that need to type long constants hundreds of times per day. This blue indicator is obscuring the view, pressing esc will hide it but in some applications (including Safari) pressing escape will simultaneously exist maximised mode.
It's really annoying when you're trying to chat with colleagues in Teams chat in Safari and pressing escape to hide the indicator causes safari to exit full screen maximised mode.

Indeed but if you click the icon, the Caps Lock is deactivated, ergo the icon is always displayed if Caps Lock is on.
Hello dialabrain,
You are correct indeed. I had to try several time (using this answer) to reproduce what you show. The first few times the icon would raise its head again. AFTER SOME PRACTICE, I was able to do it consistently.
Thanks for correcting me and sorry for doubting you !!!
Us architects also tend to have Caps Lock on while drafting in AutoCAD (or another program), as more often than not, our drawing notes are entered in all caps. Makes sense to just do work in that program with the lock enabled.
My problem right now is that I have turned Caps Lock *off*, and the icon continues to show in the middle of my screen. Not sure if it is a Microsoft Remote Desktop glitch?
Until the next update at least. Bad idea to mess with things under the hood if you are not skilled at doing so and know exactly what you are doing. Entering raw Unix commands can be deadly if you make any tiny mistake in syntax or punctuation. That’s why computers have GUIs to interface with humans instead of command lines.
While dialabrain is completely trustworthy and knows his stuff, others may not be.
Glad you’re happy. It was just a friendly warning.
Click the indicator while will disable caps lock. Just press the caps lock key again and continue typing.
I don't have trouble making the indicator disappear and continuing to type in caps if I want. Not that I usually do. I don't know what the issue is.
