Apple Mail not working

My Mail account is not working. It hardly ever does. I've had it for 20 years with many different web providers and have always followed their directions carefully. My email address works fine when I use webmail. My iCloud address works perfectly as do my work email addresses and my Gmail address but they do not use Apple Mail.


I think the server ports may be incorrect but I can't figure out where to change them and I'm not sure what they should be anyway. Apple's set up dialog is sadistically unhelpful.


Would appreciate any help.

What do you mean when you say that your "Mail account is not working"? You say that your email works fine when you use webmail. What email? Do you mean the iCloud and Gmail accounts you mention in the next sentence? Or something else?


As best I can tell, it sounds as if you're saying that the Mail app is not working as expected with any email account. Is that what you mean? What is happening when you try to use Mail? Are you getting any error messages? If so, what do they say? If you are going to post screenshots to answer these questions, make sure that you have blurred or removed any personal information.


What version of macOS are you using?
