Cellular service UNAVAILABLE since updating to ios17.0.3

I've updated my ios to iOS 17.0.3, and since then I do not have ANY Cellular Service. I've been to the Vodacom Shop, and they said I should send it in for repairs. Is there any solution rather than that, cause I need my phone to work with

iPhone 11, iOS 17

Sorry to hear you are having this issue.

I would try the following:

Check for a Carrier Settings update

To manually check for and install a carrier settings update:

  1. Make sure that your device is connected to a Wi-Fi or cellular network.
  2. Tap Settings > General > About. If an update is available, you'll see an option to update your carrier settings.
  3. To see the version of carrier settings on your device, tap Settings > General > About and look next to Carrier.

If you insert a new SIM card into your iPhone or iPad, you need to download the carrier settings for your new carrier.

Turn your cellular line off and back on

Go to Settings > Cellular and check to see if your cellular line is turned on. If your cellular line is off, turn it back on. Then check to see if you have service.

If you don't see your cellular line in Settings > Cellular, you should set up an eSIM or insert a physical SIM card. If you're using a physical SIM card, remove the SIM card and put it back in.

If your SIM card is damaged, doesn't fit in the SIM tray, or you transferred your physical SIM card from another device, ask your carrier for a new SIM card.

Reset your Network Settings

Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.

Contact your carrier

Issues with your carrier or account might affect your service. Contact your carrier to:

  • Verify that your account is active and in good standing.
  • Make sure that there are no outages in your area.
  • Check that your device isn't blocked from receiving cellular services and is set up with the right data plan.

Only your wireless carrier can access and manage details about your account:

If the issue still persists even after contacting your carrier, contact Apple Support.

Best of luck,

Bryce 🤠

I see that my reply is not a thread off of @dentdelion‘s comment. However I

followed their simple instructions shared:

  1. Cellular Data off
  2. Wifi off
  3. Airplane mode on
  4. Power off the device
  5. Wait for 8 minutes before you power it on
  6. Airplane mode off
  7. Cellular Data On —> i added**

And it really worked! Omg thank you so much! Because I was legit freaking out that I would have to factory reset my phone. But I tried this and it worked!!!! 🙌🏼 I hope it helps someone else. By the way I have an iPhone 12 Pro.

(I personally waited 15 mins though.. and when I turned my phone back on and turned the Airplane Mode off, I had to manually turn Cellular Data back on. But it definitely did the trick.) Thanks for sharing. 🙏🏼

Hello poptartsyum,

Let me suggest a few different ways to get this fixed.

  1. Force Restart Device: This is used usually when something goes wrong on the device or the screen freezes. For iPhone X models and later, quickly short press the volume up button, then quickly short press the volume down button, then hold the side button only until the apple logo appears. Note that the phone will tell you to swipe to power off, but don't swipe. Just keep holding the side button and also keep holding it when the screen goes dark. Again, don't tell go until you see the apple logo.
  2. If 1. doesn't work, go to Settings > Mobile Service > Network Selection and check if the switch is on(green) or off (grey). If it's green but still won't connect turn it off and let your phone on and open for it to load, then once it's done(after a few minutes) press the provider you want. If the switch is grey you can try the same steps at above by selecting the preferred provider or try switching it on.
  3. After you completed 2. and if still doesn't connect turn off the phone normally my pressing the volume down button and the side button simultaneously.

Let me know if any of these worked or if you need more help. :)

This happened, I think, when I updated to 17.4.1 on iPhone XR. I tried updating from PC, because oddly enough it said there was an update. That didn't work and was a waste of time. Airplane mode off/on, shutting down/restarting, those didn't work. I went to the ATT store and had the guy check my SIM card--said sim card was fine, the phone itself wasn't working--he tested eSIM and still no connection.

I backed up, factory reset and it works now.

i believe the latest iOS releases are blocking certain frequencies and network IDs being exchanged with your cellular service provider. That is why, iPhone keeps searching for cellular service.

I fixed this issue by getting the latest physical SIM from my cellular service provider and inserting it in my iPhone. If your iPhone supports eSIM, delete it and revert back to latest physical SIM.

hope this helps!

I had the same issue happen to me today. I have an iPhone XR, just updated to iOS 17.4.1 this afternoon and could not use data after (but could still make and receive calls). Troubleshooted for hours, tried everything suggested (turning data on/off, restarting phone, resetting networking settings and all settings, etc.) but no luck until I did the full factory reset. Really annoying to have to spend half my day on this (including backing my phone up before I reset it) but at least it works now!
