iPhone 15 Pro Max Battery Drain and Heating

I recently traded in my iPhone 12 Pro Max for an iPhone 15 Pro Max, specifically for the upgraded camera and battery life. I've found that the battery drain on the new phone isn't much better than the old phone. An example is this morning. I charged my phone overnight (like I always do) to 100%. I got up, only used my phone to check my mail, Twitter, and FB (a quick glance at each),closed the apps, set it down, and came back a half hour later and it was on 85%. Over the past week, I've tweaked all my settings, including turning low battery to "on," all background app refresh is "off," I even turned my Apple watch off and turned off bluetooth. I keep my display brightness turned down pretty low, and always fully close an app after I'm done with it. When I'm on a phone call for longer than a couple of minutes, the battery drains even more and the phone gets hot. I have Instagram installed but rarely use it, and it's certainly not open all the time. I've installed all the software updates. I've read that others are having these same issues, but what's the solution? This is very frustrating, to pay $1200 for a new phone that doesn't really function any better than the old one.

Was seeing a similar issue with my new 15 Pro. By mid day is was below 50% and before bed I was in low power mode below 20%. Had a look at battery usage and the Facebook app had used 58% of my battery! So I deleted the app and am now accessing Facebook through Safari. After a full day of use I still have 58% battery.

I think I may have solved the problem. I too recently purchased an iPhone 15 Pro Max and was having a terrible time with battery drain. I noted that the battery lasted only about 4 to 6 hours tops even if I didn’t use it at all. When I plugged it into the car charger it would drain faster than the car could charge it. What I finally found out was that Apple’s, HomeKit app was the culprit. Even though I use Alexa 100% of the time, HomeKit activated when i attached it to my HomePod speakers. Then it started to connect to all the other devices on my Wi-Fi network. There are more than 100. so it would constantly search for all these items 24 seven and when I checked battery usage, the HomeKit app alone would always account for 85% of my daily and last 10 days use age. I deleted the app and things got much better. There are still some strange things happening. Even though the app has been deleted, it’s still showing up as a major user of the battery . Once I get this fixed, I’m sure I’ll be out of the woods. I would also refrain from the Apple public b*** program for a while until they iron out the bumps and rewrite the code for the HomeKit app.

I found a solution for iphone 15 battery drain out issue.

I noticed “hotspot” was turned on and also “Call on other devices” post update.

I turned off hotspot by going to settings —— hotspot and switch toggle to off

2. settings ——— cellular——— turn off call on other devices.

in addition make sure your bluetooth is off when not in use. Make sure to turn off through settings and not just from control panel. Settings —— Bluetooth—— turn toggle to off.

this has immensely helped me with iphone battery drain issue and my iphone 15 Pro Max is holding the charge all day despite me playing games and spending lots of time on social media. Hope this helps

FIXED (for me): Hi Everyone from Italy! i had a costant battery drain in may new iphone 15 pro max from the first day of use. Always had iphones and never experinced something like that.

I tried in this order (after all the classic usual useless advice):

network reset

settings reset

soft reset of the phone

It slightly got better but nothing big.

Theeeen i canceled tiktok-instagram-facebook and installed them again after an hour:

Voillà the phone is now WORKING LIKE IT SHOULD!!! no more incomprehensible battery drain!

(in addiction i also cancelled some small apps and update all, but i don't think those were the problem)

I had an iphone 13 pro max before so i know how it should behave.

MY ADVISE from my experience: DELETE and RE-INSTALL all the app you have in the iphone, from the haviest to the small ones (expecially social) and check the result!

I hope this can help someone <3, i was about to go crazy!

Best regards

Here is what I have discovered on the 15 battery drain and my plan of action:

I received the 15 Pro Max 5 days ago and have had a horrible time with the battery drain. My friend got the 15 pro and the SAME story... It is at least 10-15% drain per hour with normal use and more with heavier use.

I spent many hours researching this problem and here is what I have discovered:

1) SOME apple reps are saying the 15 is in indexing a defrag stage for the first few weeks (Regardless if this is impacting the battery or not, I have NEVER had a new iPhone with such horrible drain... and I have had several). I am calling bull from the reports I am seeing.

2) Certain apps are causing drain on the 15: Yeah, it happens... but this is CLEARLY NOT the problem for thousands upon thousands of people complaining. I truly believe this is software related.

3) Some peoples batteries are losing capacity after 30 days on the 15: I have seen some user complaints that their battery capacity has dropped to 99% within 30 days. I'm no engineer, but I think that this issue is negatively impacting the battery capacity for long term use. I don't want to mess my battery up while waiting on a fix. After seeing this, I made my mind up to send the 15 PM back before the 14 day return period.

4) Upgrading the software is currently not fixing the issue for a lot of people: I have seen reports of upgrading the software, but the newest software did nothing for me and for many others.

After seeing an Apple Certified Best Buy Tech, spending hours on the phone with Apple and reading through hundreds of comments, I have concluded this is directly a software issue apple hasn't ponied up too.

Everybody is different, but I feel I jumped the gun on trading in my 13 PM. For anyone wanting the 15 or 15 PM I highly advise you to wait. Until you spend $1500 and see your battery not lasting 8 hours you will feel different about the phone, I promise.

Yes, you can tell I am a little salty.., but I am confident the problem will be fixed. Until then, I am going back to my 13 PM

Guys, I've figured out how to fix this issue.

All you have to do is:

1) Backup your iPhone to the mac/pc via a wire;

2) Go to settings, b**a updates, click on iOS 17 P**lic B**a, wait for it to be downloaded, install and that's it.

It is a stable version, I have not spotted any bugs or significant lags so far, and what is more - battery dropped 1% after 30 minutes of scrolling the Instagram, TikTok etc. What is more, overheating while charging disappeared.

Hope it'll help someone.

It should and it must be fixed by Apple. Probably 17.2 update will solve it.

Another idea from the Internet that worked on my mum’s iPhone 15 pro max - do the backup, put your device in the recovery mode and restore it from the backup. It extended the battery life from 7 to 14 hours a day.

Anyway - every solution before the update is a shot in the dark - maybe it’ll work, or maybe will not.

I’m glad it’s not just me, I thought I got a dud. I took my 15pm to Apple and they looked at the battery use graph and confirmed that it shouldn’t be draining that fast. They then said it was because the phone had to “defrag” and that can take sometimes 3 weeks to complete? lol 😂 so just outside of the return window. They did a reset of the device and said if it’s still happening to come back. Well, it’s still happening so I plan on returning this on my next day off. Really disappointed in Apple on this one.

An update on my case:

I updated my iOS to 17.1.1 and my watchOS to 10.1.1 and I see some improvement in terms of the battery life on my new iPhone15 Pro. I had fully charged after the upgrade and let it runs and use it as my usual route. After 24 hours, the phone still had 60% juice left. I am now fully charged my iPhone13 ProMax and iPhone15Pro and going to test them up side by side and see how it goes.

Will report back tomorrow.

Just FYI if you have both phone and watch paired, you might want to make sure to update to their latest version.

Did you end up returning it? Did Apple try and tell you it was your fault for having background apps running? This was my experience, even though, the SAME day, Apple realeased a statement saying there is still a group of people experiencing battery drain issues. They are taking no accountability or responsibility for this issue, and saying it’s my fault for how I use the phone. I literally use it the same as my 13PM and when testing the two side by side, the 15pm dropped to 79%, and the the 13PM, in the same amount of time and use, was at 88%. I had WiFi, Bluetooth, and cellular data turned off, on both phones, and this was the result after several hours of just sitting side by side.
