I bought more storage but it still says I don't have any space

I was running low on storage and I didn't want to have to delete anything so I upgraded and bought more storage. So far I've used 75 GB and I have a total of 200 GB and my macbook air keeps telling me I don't have space. It will close my imovie and photo app while I am using it because it says there is not enough space even though I bought more and clearly have more GB to use. I am not sure what to do because I bought more storage so I didn't have to delete everything, but now it seems like that extra storage is not being used.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.7

The running low on storage message refers to your ssd on your computer. Buying more iCloud storage does not increase local storage.
